In 1997, market leader Otis Elevator Company’s (NASDAQ UTX) service division faced trouble in Miami, Florida. Management turnover and external issues contributed to a danger of losing several major service contracts, and sales had ground to a near halt. By applying the same principles of brand reinforcement, growth strategy, and the implementation of several new quality control systems Otis Miami not only lost no major customers that year, but leveraged that culture of growth and service quality to set sales records nearly every year since.
Later, when Otis was seeking new markets to expand its presence globally, our team started and grew “Otis Marine,” a new team catering specifically to the cruise, shipping and ship building industry. Otis Marine generated new revenues for Otis from this previously underserved / unidentified market. From the Bahamas to the yards at St. Nazaire to the open ocean, Gibraltar, Singapore and beyond the Otis Marine brand was launched worldwide and embraced by the marketplace.
When the State of Florida privatized elevator inspections, it created a new market with the stroke of a pen – one that numerous entrepreneurs and established companies moved quickly to capture. When Kelly Cook came to Brand Equity with a vision of the largest and most professional inspection process management firm in the region, we knew exactly what to do. More than six years later, adhering to our initial strategy and branding guidelines, AEI has the largest market share in Florida and is still growing. Meanwhile, countless better capitalized early competitors are a distant memory.
